Change is Inevitable – Lessons Learned On the Road

I’m compiling some of the lessons and interesting tidbits I’ve learned with the hopes of passing along useful information to fellow wanderers. Especially families of travelers similar to ours.

Life is what it is. It doesn’t take a break just because we’ve decided to step away and do things a little differently. In everyday life, situations and circumstances pop up along our paths forcing us to make decisions. Challenges and opportunities create a fork in our road, which is how Hyatt Family Adventures started in the first place. The truth is simple: there is always a choice; always options. We may not like our choices but that doesn’t change the fact the they are there. We could go back the way we came, continue with no change, start in a new direction, or forge our own way. The exciting/scary part comes from deciding on and then implementing a drastic change to the right, left or into the unknown.

Prepare to be Disappointed – Lessons Learned On the Road

Disappointment is a pointed thing. All your romantic notions of hiking along beautiful trails, seeing the wildlife and singing songs around the campfire are really just that; romantic notions. There’s not a lot of s’more making and animal watching as much as there are biting/ stinging bugs and footwear caked in mud forever. Living out of your vehicle
Eating from the best seat in the house

Living out of ‘Hoe-Nu, our 2004 Chevy Tahoe wasn’t really part of the original plan, though we did take the idea into account. In the original scheme, we saw ourselves towing a vintage trailer. Though we also toyed with the idea of a cargo van, neither of those plans came to fruition. Continue reading “Car Camping – Lessons Learned On the Road”

first world

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the itch to travel. I’ve dreamed of telling stories and sharing photos of where I’ve been with anyone interested. The funny thing is, now that I’m doing that, I’m having a difficult time doing the sharing part. Continue reading “Travel Blogging Isn’t Easy – Lessons Learned On the Road”

brace yourself

Even though we knew we’d be beginning our adventures during the colder months, we thought to combat the weather with layers of clothing and our Little Buddy Heater. We knew snow might very well be in our future but we didn’t take into the account how bad cold, clear nights would be. For the most part, we did very well. Mobility was impaired but not very badly and we almost got away with it, too. If it wasn’t for the cold front that hit us in Gila National Forest (NM). wind bad time

We never really took wind into account while planning our route, except for the wind chill factor. Expecting that wind would compound the problem of low temperatures, we decided that we would just bundle up as needed. What we didn’t foresee is how 15-20 mph winds would affect our commitment to tent camping.
